It's the third Monday of April and that means it's time for the Stamp Review Crew. We are a group of Stampin' UP! demonstrators sharing a ton of ideas focused on a single stamp set. This week we're featuring the Magical Day Stamp Set. You have likely come from Holly Krautkremer on your way through this amazing hop. If you get lost, simply click on the banner for a list of participants and get back on track.
I a have had a rather busy few weeks. I was in NYC from March 28 thru April 3. Every year I attend a benefit produced by Broadway Cares - Equity Fights AIDS. It's called Broadway Backward and is the highlight of my year - along with at least on show a day, and maybe two. Then on Las Vegas where I attended Stampin' UP!'s Regional Conference. Talk about your Magical Day! I was there from April 6 thru April 8. Then on April 9 I drove to San Diego to celebrate my sister's 80th birthday! I'm exhausted! So I needed some play time.
What a delightful set this is. I sat down and played for four hours and the time just flew! It was so relaxing after the hectic two weeks prior. As you can see I had no creative block with this set. This is the perfect set, by the way, for a child's birthday. Or the playfully young at heart!
Step by Step Tips:
- The top two cards are 3"x3" cards and the bottom are standard 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" cards. Using the Stitched Shapes circles made it a no brainer for the focal point. In fact there wasn't a whole lot of stamping in these projects. Mostly punching and die cutting. I did fussy cut parts of the dragon and Merlin.
If you look closely on the dragon card above the "L" in MAGICAL you'll see a cluster of three leaves and a rounded corner. Spoiler alert for the new catalog. This is from Detailed Trio Punch which punches this image, a ribbon hole, and the easiest corner rounder you'll ever use. And it slices through card stock with absolutely no effort at all - perfect every time.
- I also love this Designer Series Paper called Myths and Magic. It has subtle sparkle on many of the sheets. The Bermuda bubble design is gorgeous. I'd love to see and entire series of this design in multiple colors. (Are you listening, Stampin' UP!?)
- The stand alone Merlin was the most fun.
- I stamped 4 of the images on Whisper White card stock and colored them in. Then I cut them out using the framelit. (Thank God for the Framelit. Cutting that hat would have been brutal by hand!)
- Starting from the back was a complete image.
- Next I cut off the extended arm and layered it on top using the Mini-Dimensionals.
- Then I cut out the hat, head, beard and relaxed arm. Don't try to cut out the magic wand - it's just not worth it! That goes on top of the previous two layers.
- Finally I cut out the hat, head, and beard. All the layers allow it to stand my itself. Simple! (And FUN!)
Next stop on the hop is Nikki Spencer where
she'll wow you with her beautiful design skills.
Love these Mike. You were on creative fire! So glad you were able to find time to create after a hectic few weeks.

Such fun projects, and you combined the DSP and the stamp images so well. Both are a must have!

Saw you at OnStage - you were sitting at the table in front of me. You looked like you were having a blast! But weren't we all! Cute ideas for the DSP and stamp set.
