Stampin' Up! Stippled Blossom & Hardwood
It's Sunday and that means it's time for the Paper Players weekly challenge. This week it's a color challenge and what a treat! We have FOUR colors to use! When it comes to color challenges, I guess you could say I'm a purist. I rarely use any other colors, even an accent color. Of course I don't consider Whisper White, Very Vanilla, or Basic Black to be a color!
- So often we look at the positive element of a die cut and only see value in that. But the Top Note die is perfect for framing by simply using the negative "scrap" of the die cut. Just cut your paper 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" and center it on the die. Use the actual die cut for another project.
- I used a sponge dauber to add color to the Hard Wood background stamp using Hello Honey. It creates kind of a knotty pine effect. To create the individual board effect. I masked off the edge of the board I was coloring and only shaded that edge. Had the color challenge allowed another neutral color, I might have added highlighting in Soft Suede to create contrast, but as I said, I'm a purist!
- The rose was stamped first on Blushing Bride card stock using Blushing Bride ink. The shading stamp was inked with Calypso Coral. The stippled blossom rose center was stamped with Calypso Coral on Hello Honet card stock and cut out. The entire flower was also hand cut.
- The right blosson cluster was die cut using Flower Fair and the Builder Bird Punch. The flowers were shaded using Calypso Coral Blendabilites and the leaves were cut out of Hello Honey card stock and textured with Basic Gray ink using the leaf stamp from the Stippled Blossoms set. Simple!
Mike, you used the top note die perfectly. I love the woodgrain background. The two sets of different flowers anchor the bottom of the card and add so much textural interest.
Fabulous card

Absolutely stunning, Mike! It's perfect in every way...including the pearls. This is my favorite floral stamp set. I always forget to use the Top Note die. It really is a classic!

Your purist approach to the color challenge cracks me up! I'm, glad you embraced some neutrals coz I don't think of them as "colors" either. Love your hardwood background especially with the sponging and the Stippled Blossom on BB with CC ink is gorgeous! Just what I had in mind with these colors, too!

Very pretty card,I love the way the flower color pops on the blue card base and the wood center sets everything off.

Mike, this card is fabulous! I love the use of the negative space for the hardwood and then the way it frames your flowers is genius! XX

I love how you used the top note negative space to frame the hardwood background, then layered the flowers on the front. Lots of dimension without making the card too bulky! Love your thoughts on purist colouring - normally I would agree, but I did sneak a little kraft onto my card this week (as an alternative to white as my neutral ;-) - felt a little naughty though!!)

Fabulous card Mike. That fourth color must have made it easier for the purist to enjoy the challenge completely. ;-) come Monday, I'll be able to give these challenges a try. Looking forward to that. TFS, hugs Jess
