Stampin' Up! Lovely As A Tree & Four The Holidays

The Pals Paper Arts Challenge for this week is a photo inspiration of winter whites.  Creating a tone on tone card using Very Vanilla and Whisper White is somewhat difficult as neither offer enough contrast to show up.  However using one of the Naturals card stocks named Ivory and some vellum, I was able to create a tone on tone that gave me the contrast I wanted with some gold embossing to highlight the images.  I think it captures the winter's glow perfectly.

Putting It Together Tips:

• I cut a 4 1/4'' x 5 1/2'' piece of Ivory card stock and centered it on the Top Note Die.  Save the die cut and use the negative for the frame.
• Cut a 4 1/4'' x 5 1/2'' piece of paper weight vellum and after wiping it with the Embossing Buddy, imprint it with the tree and sentiment images using VersaMark.  Apply Gold Stampin' Emboss powder and heat set.  Be careful to keep the heat moving.  I usually hold the vellum in one hand by the corner while I heat emboss.  This reduces the curl of the vellum.  Apply SNAIL to all four edges of the Top Note frame and attach it to the vellum.
• Imprint the left tree stamp image using Soft Suede Classic ink and apply to the right card base aligning the middle of the center tree with the card stock edge.  Reverse the process for the left side and attach the card face using SNAIL.

PPA27 - Snowflakes

The challenge this 28th day of january 2010 from the Pals' paper Arts group is snowflakes.  One would have thought that we would have had enough "snowflakes" for one winter and it was time to think warmer thoughts.  So that's what I did.  I thought of a ski sweater and that is sort of my inspiration for this challenge...

Putting It Together Tips:

• For the main image on this card I simply cut a 2 3/4" piece of Kraft card stock and half punched the snowflake out.  Then I positioned the punched out piece opposite to the punch.  I trimmed a few of the spokes from a snowflake off to accent the Modern Label punch.
• The Pinking Hearts Border Punch is the new design series of punches from Stampin' Up!  It's compact design makes it a winner for crafters with storage challenges and the matching corner punch make it a breeze to create interesting mats to highlight stamped or punched images.  Here I used it to create the illusion of a knitted border for my "ski sweater" card.
• A few Silver Brads and a single clear rhinestone brad add the bling to complete the card!

Mojo 119 - The More The Merrier

Okay - so Christmas is over and for many of us all we have to look forward to is mountains and mountains of SNOW!  Cool!  (This coming from a guy who lives where the temps rarely go below 40 degrees F!)  I was raised in Michigan and still miss the snow in the winter.  So my tribute to S-N-O-W...SNOW!

Stampin' Steps:

1. Cut a 2 1/2" x 3" piece of DSP and mat on a 2 5/8" x 3 1/8" piece of Brushed Silver card stock using 2-Way Glue pen.  Position this on a 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" piece of Taken With Teal card stock using a 2-Way Glue Pen referring to the picture.
2. Imprint the Two Cool Dudes image on Whisper White card stock using Taken With Teal Classic Ink.  Color the nose with a Ruby Red Stampin Write Marker.  Crop to 1" x 3" and mat on a 1 1/8" x 3 1/8" piece of Brushed Silver card stock using a 2-Way Glue Pen.  Attach to the card face from Step 1 using a 2-Way Glue Pen referring to the picture.
3. Imprint the image from The More The Merrier set on Whisper White card stock using Basic Black Classic ink.  Color using Taken With Teal and Ruby Red Stampin Write Markers.  Cut out using the Circle Scissor Plus and a Glass Mat to create a 2 3/4" circle.  Mat on a 3" Brushed Silver circle using a 2-Way Glue Pen.
4. Imprint the snowflake from the Patterned Pines set on Brushed Silver card stock using VersaMark ink and dust with White Stampin Emboss Powder.  Heat set.  Punch out the snowflake using the 1 3/4" circle punch.  Then crop out around the snowflake using the 3/4" punch.  Attach to the portion of the card created in step 3.  Attach Stampin Dimensionals to the circle assembly and attach to the card face.  
5. Attach the card face to a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock scored at the 4 1/4" mark.  Fold.

Mojo Monday 114 - Happy Hanukkah

This challenge just seemed to speak to  Happy Hanukkah card for me.  I love the contrast between the Brilliant Blue and the silver embossing powder.

Stampin' Steps:

1. Cut a 2" x 2 1'4" piece of Brilliant Blue card stock.  TIP: I cut my card stock the same size as the wood block the stamp is mounted on and then use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center it perfectly!  Imprint the menorah using VersaMark ink and the dust with silver embossing powder.  Heat set.  Ticket corner punch all four corners and mat on a 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" piece of Brushed Silver card stock using 2-Way Glue Pen.
2. Cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Brilliant Blue card stock and ticket corner punch all four corners.  Stamp the sentiment with VersaMark ink approximately 3" from the bottom of the card stock aligning the right edge of the wood block with the right edge of the card.  Dust with Silver embossing powder and heat set.  Cut a 1" x 3 3/4" piece of Brushed Silver card stock and Scallop Edge punch.  Cut two 1/4" x 3 3/4" pieces of Brushed Silver card stock and ticket corner punch one strip.  Arrange all three strips at the top of the card front referring to the picture.  Adhere with 2-Way Glue Pen.
3. Affix the card front to a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock scored at the 4 1/4" mark using SNAIL adhesive.
4. Affix the menorah unit to the card face approximately 1/2" from the bottom and left edges of the card face using Stampin Dimensionals.

PPA16 - Season of White

Another one of those ideas I've had rolling around in my head.  Wasn't sure how I was going to pull it off but I'm fairly happy with the results.  I know I have a reputation for giving exact measurements but for this, it would be near impossible to do that for the houses.  I'll give the punches used - after that you can refer to the pic for placement!

Stampin' Steps:

1. Cut a 5 1/2" x 12" piece of Real Red Textured card stock.  Center the Santa and his sleigh stamp at the top making sure the image is parallel to the top and within a 1 1/2" area from the top.  Imprint using VersaMark ink and dust with White embossing powder.  Heat set. 
2. Imprint the trees from the Lovely as a Tree set three times using the StazOn Jet Black ink going down the center of the card.  Using the random flurries stamp from the Itty Bitty Background set. randomly imprint using VersaMark ink.  Dust with White Embossing powder and heat set.
3. On the 12" edge of the card mark at 2", 4", 8", and 10".  Score at these marks parallel to the 5 1/2" side.  Using the Paper Cutter cut 1 1/2" from the 12" edge between the 2" score line and the 10" score line.  Repeat on the opposite 12" edge.  This will give you a 2 1/2" band running down the center of the card.     
4. Cut three 1 1/4" x 3 3/4" pieces of Whisper White.  Attach one of these rectangles to the lower left corner of the card and one to the lower right corner of the card centering between the score line and the edge, and the cut line and the edge.  These will be used as the house bases to build from.  
5. Folding this card to create the panel effect is next.  The top and the bottom bands should be folded away from you at the 4" score and towards you at the 8" score.  The 2" and 10" scores are left unfolded.  The center band should be folded away from you at the 2" score; towards you at the 4" score; away from you at the 8"score; and towards you at the 10" score.  WHEW!
6. Cut various squares (Doors), Tags (Building bases), Word Window (Church windows on the front) and Photo Corner (Roof lines) punches from Whisper White card stock and "create" your village.  Be careful to open and close your card matching rooflines so that the closed card looks finished and doesn't have any "roofs" floating with no building under them.
7. Ticket Corner Punch the remaining 1 1/4" x 3 3/4" strip of Whisper White card stock on all four corners.  Imprint Season of White in the center of the strip using StazOn Jet Black ink.  Position and place three Real Red brads below the sentiment and secure.  Position and secure this strip on the center bottom section of the card using SNAIL.

Stampin' Steps:

1. Cut a 4" x 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" piece of Brushed Silver card stock.  Cut a 4' x 3 7/8" piece of DSP and mount to the left side of the Brushed Silver card stock allowing for the border using the 2-way Glue Pen.  Cat a 4" x 1 3/8" piece of Taken With Teal card stock and mount to the right side of the Brushed Silver card stock using 2-way Glue Pen.  TIP:  This is the first time I've used the 2-way Glue Pen.  It held the paper firmly and with no bulk.  I LIKE IT!!!
2. Imprint the large snowman image from the "Two Cool Dudes" stamp set on Whisper White card stock using Taken With Teal Classic Ink.  Trim to 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" and mat on a 2 3/8" x 2 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock using 2-way Glue Pen.  Double mat on a 2 1/2' x 2 3/4" piece of Brushed Silver card stock using 2-way Glue Pen.  Mount on the Taken With Teal/DSP assembly.
3. Fasten three Silver Brads to the Taken with Teal card stock positioning according to the picture.
4. Imprint the snowflake cluster from the Christmas Punch stamp set on the left side of the DSP using VersaMark Ink.  Dust with Iridescent Ice Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set.
5. Imprint the Simple Snowflake on Brushed Silver card stock using VersaMark ink and dust with Iridescent Ice Stampin Emboss Powder.  Heat set.
6. Punch out the snowflake using the Jumbo Snowflake paper punch.  TIP:  You're really going to need to get some leverage on this punch as the Brushed Silver card stock is a bit thicker.  Just put all your weight on it! 
7. Attach the snowflake to the card front using the edges from the Stampin Dimensionals.  TIP:  This is usually the waste from the Dimensionals, but I trimmed them a bit and they fir behind the narrow edges of the snowflake perfectly! 
8. Attach the entire card front to a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock scored at the 4 1/4" mark.
