This week's Pals Paper Arts challenge is a color challenge using Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, and Baja Breeze.  For my birthday a dear friend of mine baked a cake for me.  My favorite is yellow cake with chocolate frosting.  He had had tongue surgery the week before but insisted on making the cake anyway.  After dinner we cut into the cake and it was just not what he expected.  A new oven had made it more dry than he preferred.  Wouldn't you know two days later he showed up at my door with a second cake - this one, perfect!  Now this guy definitely earned a Thank You card!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I placed the border image on the card base before I folded the card AND before I created the card front.  No fold made it easier to stamp on and oce the border iamge was in position, I knew exactly how wide to make the card front.
• My Eyelet Border "ribbon started out with a 1 1/2'' strip of Baja Breeze card stock.  I punched down one side and then turned the strip around and matched the "bumps!"  Piece of cake!
• I wanted the flowers to have an airy look to them so instead of coloring them in, I used the Blender Pen to create brush strokes of color starting from the center of the flower.  The border images were colored in with a Stampin' Write marker.
• The DSP Patterns Stack is a great investment!  You get a whole color collection with 4 patterns of each color to play with.  They're great for that quick touch of monochromatic color!

PPA91 - Button, Button, Who USED the Button?

Stampin' Up! Sweet Buttons & Circle Circus

The challenge for Pals Paper Arts this week is a design element - the button.  The goal is to incorporate a button in the design.  Well, I decided to incorporate a whole plate of buttons in the design - sort of.  You see there's really only one REAL button in the creation, and the rest either simulate button shapes through Circle Circus or use “buttons” created with the Sweet Buttons Embosslits die.  Just as in the picture, circle images create the illusion of more buttons than there actually are.  Either way, the effect is one that is loaded with spring colors and a fresh appeal - so who USED the button?  You should!

Putting It Together Tips:

• When you're creating your own Designer Series Paper (which is pretty much what I did with Circle Circus on this card) always start with the largest image first and work your way down to the smaller image.  It's much easier to fit smaller images in spaces that are left than to fit larger ones in.  Plus too many smaller images just looks too busy.
• Using the Sweet Button Embosslit die, I cut card stock 2 1/4'' square and fit them inside the die.  It's am amazing die that creates six dies cuts that you can then just “sprinkle” throughout your card.
• A thin strip of card stock gives the illusion that there is a color coordinated piece of cord in the button holding the ribbon in place.
• I love a think mat on white card stock.  It gives a nice frame without overpowering the image.

Simple Sketches & Well Scripted

Today I'm using a  set called Simple Sketches.  This set is a retired set and I actually have it for sale in Mom's Attic.  But I wanted to use it one more time And pair it with the Well Scripted Clear Mounted set from the Occasions Mini.  I thought I'd do a dry run for the color challenge for tomorrow's Pals' Paper Arts Challenge - Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo.  The third color for the challenge is Black, but for my dry run, I decided to replace it with Always Artichoke.  I love this color!

Putting It Together Tips:

• After cutting the Always Artichoke 4" x 5 1/4" and notching the four corners.  Run it through the Big Shot with impressions folder.  Then rub the Gold Encore! Pad lightly over the raised areas to highlight.
• Using the Stamp-a-ma-jig to align the three layers of the rose is a no brainer.  So simple.  The third layer is VersaMark ink and gold Stampin' Emboss powder.
• I used my paper snips to cut out the sentiment and mount using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Mojo 118 - You're Never More Than a Thought Away

Lots of firsts in this card for me.  The Friend graphic is from our upcoming Occasions Mini Catalog premeiring January 4, 2010.  This is so exciting as it is from a new clear mount set - I (heart) Hearts.  I had mixed feelings about these when they were announced, but I AM SOLD after using them.  Especially since you can see exactly where you're placing the image with the new label system.  Ask me more about these.  The same is true of the sentiment from the Whimsical Words set - also clear mount.  But this set is from our Sale-a-bration catalog also premiering January 5th, 2010.  Spend $50 and get this set free as well as other sets.  Finally I used my first button - EVER!  LOL  Enjoy!

Stampin' Steps:

1. To create the card face, cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Melon Mambo Textured card stock and mat it on a 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" piece of Basig Gray using SNAIL.
2. Cut a 1 3/4" x 3 7/8" piece of Whisper White card stock and mat it on a 2" x 4" piece of Basic Gray card stock using SNAIL.  Adhere this to a 2 1/2" x 4" piece of Brushed Silver card stock.  Imprint the sentiment in Basic Black on the left side of the Whisper White.  Cut a 1/4" x 1 3/4" piece of Melon Mambo and mat it on a 1/2" x 1 3/4" piece of Basic Gray using SNAIL.  Position on the right side of the Whisper White.  
3. Imprint the heart image on Whisper White using Melon Mambo Classic ink.  Trim to 1/16" and mat on a punched Basic Gray heart.  Attach using Stampin' Dimensionals.  
4. Punch a small hole at the top of the Melon Mambo/Basic Gray strip using a Paper Piercing Tool and position a 3/4" Basic Gray Corduroy Button in place.  Attach this assembly to the card created in step 1.  Attach to a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock scored at the 4 1/4" position.  Fold.
