Trash to Treasure

The minute I received this wonderful card from my customer Kim, it reminded me of what I've told all my customers - NEVER throw anything away!!!  At least not when it comes to paper scraps and ribbon.  Here is a beautiful example of what a few scraps, a couple of paper punches, and a rhinestone or two can create in just a few minutes.  In fact, the only thing that's NOT in short supply here is creativity.  Here's a bit about Kim in her own words:

My inspiration came from a SU demo, Julie Davison (juliedavison.blogspot.com).  I am a former SU demonstrator and still love anything SU.  I have three demo blogs that I watch: Mary Fish, Julie and you (which I found via Mary's.)   Teaching paper art topics as well as creating cards, scrapbook pages or box creations take up my free time out of the office, especially during the Michigan winter evenings.

With pieces of paper that we usually throw away, Kim has created a mini work of art!  Way to go!  Thanks Kim, for the beautiful card and also for sharing with us.

 

 

Mojo Mums - Mojo Monday 108

How about a stamping project with no stamps!  Another of my personal challenges, but this one is special!

Stampin' Steps

1. Cut a piece of Old Olive card stock 5 1/4" x 4".  Pass through the Big Shot using the Finial Press Embossing Folder.
2. Cut a piece of 3 1/4" x 3 3/4" Dusty Durango card stock.  Finish the corners using the Ticket Corner punch.  Position it on the card stock in step one and adhere using SNAIL adhesive.
3. Cut a 18" piece of Dusty Durango ribbon and wrap around the unit created in steps 1 & 2 and tie close to the left edge. Trim the ribbon.
4. Cut a piece of Apricot Appeal 2 1/2" x 4" and finish the corners using the Corner Rounder Punch. Affix to the previous unit using SAIL Adhesive.   TIP:  CORNER PUNCHES ARE ONE OF YOUR BEST INVESTMENTS.  THEY CAN TAKE A PLAIN PIECE OF CARD STOCK FROM BLAH TO BEAUTIFUL IN NO TIME AT ALL!!!
5. Cut out the leaf branc using the Stampin' Up! Little Leaves die and Old Olive card stock.  Position behind the bow and lightly glue using SNAIL Adhesive.
6. Cut three flowers - one from Only Orange card stock and two from Dusty Durango card stock - using the Stampin' Up! Flower Burst die.  Using the DTP (Direct to Paper) method,  Apply the ink from the matching ink pad to the flowers being careful to not press so hard that it places ink in the crevices of the flower.  Adhere the Dusty Durango flowers to the card using SNAIL Adhesive and the Only Orange flower using Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Attach the completed card front to a piece of 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Apricot Appeal card stock scored to allow for easy folding.

Mojo 107 - Medallion

This was a personal challenge as well as a Mojo Challenge.  I wanted to see what I could do with texture without relying on a lot of color.

Stampin' Steps

These directions will be vague as I just kind of worked with it.  But the key ingredients are:

1. Emboss a strip of Craft card stock with the Finial Embossing Folder and rub the surface over the VersaMark ink pad.  Ink the Medallion stamp with VersaMark and imprint on the Craft card stock. Also imprint a second image on a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Soft Suede.  TIP:  I cut my card stock the same size as the block the stamp is mounted on.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-Jig to align the image in the card stock.  This made it easier to cut out the Craft pieces that had to match the Soft Suede image on the bottom where the design was built.
2. Sprinkle the full Medallion impression on the Craft card stock and the strip of paper with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder and heat set.  Also heat set the Soft Suede image.
3. Cut the Craft card stock Medallion up as pictured and mount on Basic Black card stock.Then mount the pieces on Soft Suede matching up the image.
4. Mount the center on Basic Black and and insert the gold brad, then on the car using Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Apply the six brads and mount to Craft card stock card base.

Stampin' Steps

1. Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock 4" x 5 1/4" and attach to the Very Vanilla A2 card stock card base.  Cut a piece of 3 13/4" x 5" Pine Cone paper from the Autumn Traditions DSP pack and attach to the Chocolate Chip on the card.
2. Punch six 1" circles from the light green Cast-a-Spell DSP and attach to six 1 1/4" Chocolate Chip circles.  Cut one circle in half and position along the bottom of the card as shown along with the two whole circles.  Position the three whole matted circles on top of them per the pattern.
3. Cut a 4" x 7/8" strip of Chocolate Chip card stock and place on the card covering the top half of the second row of circles.
4. Imprint "embrace life." with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock and punch out using the Word Window punch.  Attach to a 1/2" x 2 1/2" strip of Dusty Durango card stock.  Affix a gold brad on either side of the tag and attach to the Chocolate Strip using Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Ink the pine cone stamp from the Autumn Days set with Chocolate Chip, Always Artichoke on the center pine needles and Old Olive on the end pine needles and imprint on a piece of 2" x 2" Very Vanilla card stock.  Mat on a 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" piece of Chocolate Chip card stock and affix to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Mojo Monday #96 - Bloomin' Beautiful

This card has been in my head for a while now.  I just needed the motivation to put it on paper!

Stampin Stuff:

Stamp Set - Bloomin Beautiful, French Script

Paper - Very Vanilla, Bermuda Bay, Razzleberry Lemonade designer series paper

Ink - Soft Suede, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay Stampin Marker, Certainly celery Stampin Marker, Versa Mark, Gold Embossing Powder

Ribbon - Ribbon Bundle Certainly Celery 

Tools - Scallop Circle Bigz die, SNAIL adhesive, Aqua Painter

Stampin Steps:

1. Cut a 5 " x 5 " each piece of Very Vanilla and Bermuda Bay card stock.  Cut using the Scallop Circle Bigz die.  Tip:  I layered them and cut at the same time to save time! 
2. Using VersaMark ink, imprint the image on the very Vanilla card stock and cover with Gold embossing powder.  Emboss. 
3. Imprint the same image on a Post-It note and cut out.  Place the Post -It note mask on the image.    
4. Ink the French Script background stamp with Soft Suede and apply over entire Very Vanilla scallop Circle.  Remove mask. 
5. Color flowers with Bermuda Bay marker and vase with Aqua Painter and Melon Mambo.  Color leaves with certainly Celery Stampin Marker.  Tip:  With the embossing powder set, you can just "slop" the ink on - it doesn't stick to the embossing powder!  
6. Adhere to Bermuda Bay scallop circle using SNAIL adhesive.  Make sure the scallops are alternating so both colors show evenly.  Set aside. 
7. Cut a piece of 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" Bermuda Bay card stock.  Adhere 3 1 1/2" x 5 1/4" strips of Melon Mambo Razleberry Lemonade designer paper evenly on the Bermuda Bay card stock.  Tie a piece of Certainly Celery ribbon around the card stock.  
8. Apply Stampin Dimensionals to the back of the scallop circle and adhere to the Bermuda Bay card stock.  
9. Attach the entire assembly to a piece of 5 1/2" x 11" Very Vanilla card stock scored in the middle. 

Mojo Monday Week 95

This card was inspired by the Mojo Monday 95 Challenge.  For those of you unfamiliar with this chalenge, a template is provided for inspiration and the card designer is challenged with determining colors, images, a theme, etc.  

My color inspiration was a picture from an HGTV bedroom design:

Stampin' Stuff

Stamps:  Upsy Daisy, Bloomin' Beautiful

Paper:  Very Vanilla, Barely Banana, Certainly Celery, Mellow Moss, and Basic Black

Ink:  Basic Black

Tools:  Stampin' Dimensionals, SNAIL adhesive, Boho Blossom Punch, Scallop Edge Punch, 1/2" Circle Punch

Embellishments: Gold Brad

Stampin' Steps

1. Cut a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Mellow Moss and mount it on a  piece of 5 3/8" x 4 1/8" piece of Basic Black   
2. Imprint the Upsy Daisy main image on both Barely Banana and Certainly Celery.  Trim to size using the left  side of the image from Barely Banana and the right side of the image from Certainly Celery. 
3. Mount on Basic Black allowing a 1/8" border. 
4. Cut a 4 1/4" x 1 1/2" strip of Basic Black and a 4 1/4" x 1" strip of Certainly Celery. 
5. Use the Scallop Edge punch to trim both sides of both strips and mat the Certainly celery strip with the Mellow Moss strip. 
6. Imprint the blossom definition from the Bloomin' Beautiful set on Very Vanilla.  Trim and mat on Basic Black. 
7. Adhere all components to the Mellow Moss card stock prepared in step 1 using the picture for placement. 
8. Punch the large blossom from the Boho Punch in both Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  Offset and place  the 1/2" circle in the center.  Punch a small hole through the center.  Affix the gold brad through the center of the flower and attach using a Stampin' Dimensional.
