Mojo 136 - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Stampin' Up! Pink Flamingo and Summer Sun Corduroy Buttons!

This Mojo Monday finds me omitting an element!  GASP!  With the patterns and textures I chose for this creation, I felt it was a bit cluttered to include all the elements.  Can you tell what I left out?

Putting It Together Tips:

• This sketch called for little tabs which I did not have.  Not sure what to us, I went to my punches.  The Designer Label punch was perfect to create small tabs that perfectly housed the small Thank You from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  TIP:  With all the sentiments in this projects, stamp first and then cut out or punch!
• I knew I wanted to use something other than a circle in the upper right.  The Extra Large Fancy Flower punch was the perfect size, but kind of “flat” and unexciting.  Impression folders didn't work as there was either too little or too much texture.  Then I got this brainstorm.  I drew pencil lines from the center tip of each petal directly across through the center to the opposite side.  Then I scored the lines from the outer tip to the center on one side of the flower and from the inner point to the center on the opposite side of the flower.  I creased them and popped a corduroy button in the center!  Four stacked Stampin' Dimensionals gave the flower enough height to allow the bends in the petals to remain.  Perfect!

Mojo134 - Happy Birthday

Stampin' Up! Nouveau Chic and Well Scripted Clear Mount Stamps

A few days ago I had someone ask me a question regarding masculine cards.  Unfortunately I had stepped away from my computer and was not able to respond to them in a timely manner.  For that I apologize.  So I thought I'd give an example of what I considered to be a masculine card without using an engine block or any sports equipment whatsoever.  I think masculine cards have strong lines, bold and/or neutral colors, and are simplistic in design.  And that's how Mike “MAKES" it!  (You Glee fans will understand that last comment!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I wanted to vary the design a bit by not using the Scallop Edge punch the same was as usual.  So I opted to create a ”ribbon“ using it on a 1” wide piece of card stock.  It created a “bead” effect that mimics the pattern of the Designer Series Paper.
• Using a minimal amount of More Mustard really doesn't introduce a 4th color, but more enhances the Apricot Appeal.  It especially works well as the lower layer of the daisy!

Mojo Monday 133 - Thinking of You

Stampin' Up! Impressions Folders and Embosslits

Just call me Bruce Springsteen!  I'm the em”BOSS“ing king!  This Mojo Monday I decided to rely on my Impressions folders and Embosslits die to give me the texture I needed sans Designer Series Paper.  Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip, and Brass Brads make the card pop!

Putting It Together Tips:

• As amazing as this sounds, using the Impressions folders shrinks your paper slightly.  So for the Cameo Coral band, I cut it 1/4” longer than I needed it and then trimmed it to length after I passed it through the Impressions folder.
• I used the Polka Dots Impressions folder to pull from the three little dots in the center of the Petals-a-plenty flowers.  Many series of three in this card!
• Sincere Salutations is one of my favorite greetings sets.  It's so elegant and versatile.  I definitely recommend it for your stamping library.  And although Service & Sacrifice tends to be more of an armed forces type set, I have used the “Miles...” Sentiment for many crds including holiday cards.

Mojo Monday 132 - Happy Easter

Well Scripted Clear Stamp Set and the Sizzix Daisies #2 Die

All I have to say is it's a good thing we're into spring because it would be VERY difficult to wok that Daisies #2 die into a Christmas Card!  (Not impossible - but hard!)  This die has turned out to be my favorite die double stacked.  This week it creates the circle for the template.

Putting It Together Tips:

• To give the daisies dimension, I used Pretty in Pink for the bottom layer and Blush Blossom for the top layer.
• I was getting a bit too PINK and needed something to give the card a little pop.  Old Olive Card Stock and Ribbon came to the rescue.  Just the POP I needed.
• I needed a vertical band that would stand out but wouldn't compete with the main pattern.  The Perfect Polka Dots Impressions folder was just the ticket.  It gave the band some texture without detracting from the daisies.
• Those darn daisy centers were a real challenge.  Just the plain circle was pretty bland.  I tried embossing them - naw!  Then I saw the dots stamp from the For All You Do stamp set.  Ruby Red on Cameo Coral was the finishing touch and repeats the pattern in the vertical band!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I've become a big fan of double matting - as most of you know.  I matt 1/8” smaller which gives me a 1/16“ edge around all sides.  Especially in black it makes the artwork pop!
• I always forget that the Matchbox Die has some great emblems which are intended for the top of the box, but which are slightly larger than any of the paper punches.  They're perfect for a larger sentiment or to mat to slightly smaller emblem.  In this case I used the large emblem as a matt for the scallop oval.
• The Horizontal Slot punch was a bit too big for my emblem, so I used 1/2 of the Double Rectangle punch to create the ribbon slots.  It slightly crimps the 1/2” ribbon adding another design element.

Putting It Together Tips:

• The construction of this card was somewhat tricky because of the layers and partial circle image (daisy).  I constructed this card in this order - Mat the DSP on the Melon Mambo.  Wrap with Old Olive Ribbon and lay on the Rich Razzleberry base.  Position the daisy and mark where the edge needs to be cropped.  Crop and mount.  Mount the DSP unit.  Attach the sentiment unit.  Attach the daisy center.  Attach the leaves and stem.  Attach the completed card front to the base.
• Although the old Olive did not appear in the DSP, I thought it was a great accent color and so I carried it through with the daisy center and ribbon.
• I used a scrap piece of vellum to correctly position the sentiment on the card stock.  It's clear enough to see what's below and I can just toss it afterwards!

The Challenge for Mojo Monday this week was another one that was easy for me once I went to my DSP.  I'm finding that to be a great resource for inspiration - ergo the name of my post this week.  And may I say I love this stamp set.  Enjoy!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I actually imprinted the Inspire image twice because I needed that little bit of squeak room above the definition and below the word.  The Paper Cutter makes it super easy to trim close to the areas because you can see what you're doing!
• This card was a challenge in positioning everything like the template.  Using the 2-Way Glue Pen is wonderful because it allows you to reposition the components until they're JUST RIGHT!

Mojo 127 - Happy Anniversary

Scallop Trim Border in the Sale-a-bration Mini!

 

I was actually excited to see this Mojo Monday design.  It's one that wasn't so abstract for me and I immediately knew where I was going with it.  THAT doesn't happen very often!  The finished size of this card is 5 1/2“ x 5 1/2”  Here we go!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I try to use the paper I have.  Hopefully whoever gets this card will not notice the little spiders embedded in the Cast-a-Spell paper!  LOL  That said, a perfect replacement for the Designer Series Paper I used would be Groom Specialty paper (116478)  It has the same stripe and patterned effect.  (With no spiders!)
• I wanted a splash of color on the car so I opted to use the rhinestone brads.  You could use a color brad that was reminiscent of the year of the anniversary.  Ruby happens to be for the 40th anniversary.
• The diamond shape was nestled behind the scallop trim border by first attaching the top and bottom 1/2 inch of the brushed silver strips with 2-Way Glue.  This left the middle to position the diamond perfectly.

I realize the more I participate in Mojo Monday, the more flexible I become in adapting my style to a template.  This Mojo Monday is no exception.  My initial reaction of late seems to be UGH! Putting It Together Tips:

• Cutting out the small words is a real challenge to get straight.  Using a straight edge and a Hobby Blade works well and it's quick and easy.  I love those words!
• Taking a single 6”x6“ sheet of DSP and cutting it into strips allowed me to use one sheet for the houses and the clouds.  The 2-way glue pen worked great to hold it all together.  Plus, the Welcome Neighbor DSP is free - what could be better!

Mojo 125 - Full of Love

Eastern Blooms and Medallion

 It's time for Mojo Monday!  This week I looked at the template and had no earthly idea how to pull this design off.  So I did what I usually do when I have no inspiration.  I went to my Designer Series Paper.  It's a great way to get a color palette and sometimes even the mail graphic idea.

Though it wasn't my intention, the finished product ended up looking somewhat Asian - and I love it!

Putting It Together Tips:

• The shield looked too plain and all around blah so I decided to perk it up a bit by using VersaMark ink with the Medallion Background stamp.  It seems to give it some dimension.
• The Curly Label Punch was the perfect tab for the bottom, but I stamped the sentiment from the Leaf Lines set before I punched it out - so much easier!
• The new Satin Ribbon in the Occasions Mini is really nice stuff.  Great rich texture and super easy to tie.  I have some in every color.
