A few weeks ago I posted a video tutorial that led you through the process of creating a custom envelope for any size card.  The response was overwhelming!  You all validated that there was indeed a need for this type of tutorial.  But along with the large number of comments came some that asked for a video on how to make a custom envelope for a non-standard shape.  Let's face it.  Not every card we send is square or rectagular.  So today I am providing you with a tutorial on how to determine the size of a non-standard card envelope.

One of the things I've noticed about many of the envelope tutorials on the web is they address specific sized envelopes.  But many time the card you create is not the same size as the tutorial.  The attached tutorial gives you the steps to creat ANY size envelope with a few VERY easy measuring steps.

Autumn Spice Look-a-Like

A Blender Pen

For those of you who saw my PPA116 post on Thursday, you saw the Day of Gratitude medallion.  This was created by cutting out the medallion from Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper.  It was not stamped.  However, that does not mean to say that you COULDN'T stamp it, it simply meant I cheated!  LOL  So to assure you that yes, indeed, it could be stamped, (and using a tool many of us would not think of) here are the steps:

Step 1:  Completely ink the medallion stamp with Old Olive Classic Ink.

Step 2: Using your Blender Pen (Yes, that's right - your BLENDER PEN) carefully remove the Old Olive ink from the 8 flower buds near the center of the medallion.

Step 3: Then remove the Old Olive ink from the scallop band surrounding the medallion.

Step 4: Using your Cajun Craze Stampin' Write marker apply color to the buds near the center of the medallion.

Step 5: Using your More Mustard Stampin' Write marker apply color to the  scallop band surrounding the medallion.

Putting It Together Tips:

• Make sure you continually wipe off the ink removed from the stamp from your Blender Pen.  A clean pen will ensure a cleanly wiped stamp surface.  Ay residual ink left on the stamp will muddy the color applied to the stamp in steps 4 and 5.
• Huff and puff to add moisture to your stamp before stamping it on card stock.  I tried to lightly mist the stamp, and it caused all the detail to bleed - not a good look.

Adding Color to an Embossed Image

Recently I posted a card that used the Textured Impressions Embossing Folder Framed Tulips.  Athough the embossed image by itself is beautiful, I wanted to make it pop a bit more so I added some color to it.  I have read that many of my Pals have hand colored the impression, and although I have been known to do some intricate coloring in the past, there is no way on God's green earth I would ever attempt to hand color something like this.  So I just hauled out my trusty brayer.

In July when I went to the Stampin' Up! Convention I participated in a “card” Trade with my Stampin Pretty Pals.  The reason I say “card” is that I decided to do a set of gift cards with the accompanying “pizza” box to store them in.  When I told my friends that I didn't use a pattern and that I just figured out the measurements, they were amazed.  I probably would have used one if I had known one was available.

This is the third of three consecutive Sundays postings walking you through the construction of a DYO Pizza Box.

The formula for a pizza box is basically:

• Determine the card length (longest side of your card) and card width (shortest side of your card) and add 1/4" to each measurement.  These measurements become the new card width and card length for the formula below.
• Determine the depth of the box
• Box depth + card length + box depth = card stock width
• Box depth + card width + box depth + card width + box depth = card stock length

For those of you who would like to create pizza boxes for Note Cards on page 171 of the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog, here are the measurements you'll need.  They can all be made from a standard 8 1/2” x 11“ piece of card stock.  All measurements assume a 3/4” depth.

   Score all four sides at 3/4“ and then score the middle fold at 4 1/2” and 5 1/4“

Putting It Together Tips:

• Glue Dots are the absolute best to adhere heavy items like buttons to the face of a card or scrapbook page.  A thin strip of Pumpkin Pie Card Stick serves as the “thread” that appears to hold the button in place.
• The appearance of DSP was created by randomly stamping Circle Circus images on Whisper White card stock.  I chose to use one color for each shape to create the illusion of more buttons as the background.
• The stitching technique is created by using the Mat Pack template to evenly pierce the card stock creating the illusion of needle holes.  The holes are connected using the fine tip of a Stampin' Write marker - in this case Pumpkin Pie.  Voile!  Stitching!  Check out my YouTube video above!
• I just had to complete the illusion by using the pin from the Inviting set to give the appearance that the sentiment was pinned to the card face.
