This week's Pals Paper Arts challenge is a color challenge.  Use So Saffron, Baja Breeze, and Calypso Coral in a sentence - or a creation!  ;-)  This is an amazing color palette and while I expected these rich colors to take me in the direction of summer, they actually ended up in a more tapestry environment.  I am a sucker for nature stamps!  Leaves (French Foliage), Trees (Lovely as a...) all grab my attention.  So when I saw Field Flowers and saw that it was a two step stampin' set, I was doubly glad.  (No pun intended!)  But it is amazing how many folks do not know how to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig.  Here is a perfect example of why you need to learn.

Putting It Together Tips:

• I love the Square Lattice Embossing Folder, but I always have to remind myself to emboss first and then measure and cut to size.  The length can loose as much as an eithth inch in the embossing process so if you measure and cut first you could end up with a finished product that's too small.
• When using the Stamp-a-ma-jig I always make a master using vellum.  That way you can store the master with the stamp setr and be ready next time you have to use the set.   Of course this will only work if you have wood mounted stamp sets.  I make it a practice to purchase my sentiment and 2-step sets in wood format so the image is always in the same place on the block.

Stampin' Up! Perfect Punches & Celebrations DSP

It's Sunday night and I'm already going through Convention withdrawal!  So many incredible ideas, so many incredible friends - old and new, so many incredible changes to my blog you'll see over the coming weeks.  I will truly do what the theme for the Convention was - Share What You Love!

On Friday night the Pals that attended the Convention gathered for dinner and did a project swap.  The pictures below were taken of my swap.  My goal: one stamp set, one Designer Series Paper, and a simple design that was easy to recreate.  The one caveat is that I used a ton of punches and Big Shot dies.  But I tell my card club that it is always wise to invest in tools, those items that can be used over and over and are truly an investment in your hobby or business.  And technically you could always cut these out by hand with a pair of Paper Snips (another good investment) until you had the full battery of punches and dies!

I also created a little  Pizza Box perfect to gift these little babies in.  Please see the bottom of this post.  I plan on making a video with directions on how to create these boxes for any size project.

Putting It Together Tips:

• I used 12" x 12" Whisper White Card Stock.  I scored at 3" and 9" first.  Then I cut at the 6" position.  Stack the two resulting pieces and cut across the score lines and 3", 6", and 9".  The results is eight 3"x3" folded gift cards.
• I work on all my cards flat and then fold them after the card faces are complete.  But because these cards are all matted on 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" pieces of card stock, it really doesn't matter.  The DSP is cut 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".
• The Scallop Border trim was created by starting with a 3/4" strip of card stock passed through the punch.
•  The pizza box window was cut Clearits Scallop Rectangle die after the scoring was done by positioning the clear die in position face down on the paper and securing it with a piece of painter's tape.  This ensures the die stays in position.  I then flipped the card stock over so that the die was face up and passed it through the Big Shot as usual using the Multi-purpose Platform and cutting plates.   

PPA 26 - Love You Much

The Pals' Paper Arts' Challenge for this week is "Anything But a Card."  With the lead time between now and Valentine's day growing ever shorter, I thought I might want to kill two birds with one Big Shot and not only fulfill the challenge but also make a couple of treats for my friends!  Clever boy!

PS - I know this is the second week in a row that I've used the "Love You Much" but I do - love it much!

Putting It Together Tips:

• When using any heat embossing product on our window sheets, heat the Heat Tool up before you apply the heat to the Window Sheet.  This prevents the Window Sheet from warping as the amount of time it takes to melt the embossing product is reduced.  NEVER overheat the Window Sheets - you'll have a mess on your hands!
• Punch the vellum heart out of the Embosslits die and glue it in place with the 2-Way Glue pen.  Then punch out the center with the Full Heart punch.
• Sticky Strip is an industrial strength adhesive necessary to hold 3D projects together where there is stress - like a box filled with candy hearts!
• The wonderful labels that appear on the Matchbox project are from the Matchbox Die!

PPA 25 - Inspiration Photo - Featured Artist

 

Okay so here we go with the PPA 25 Challenge - I Love Chocolate!  This challenge is an inspiration challenge, which means it is based on the inspiration you get from a photo.  I was really torn as to the direction to go with this one.  Do I focus on the chocolate aspect OR do I focus on the rich colors incorporated into this delicious looking picture OR do I go for the texture?  Decisions, decisions! Which one(s) do you think I chose?  Oh and let me just say I am loving these new clear stamps!

Putting It Together Tips:

• The Brushed Gold Card Stock is the perfect surface to paint on as the paint is not quickly absorbed, so the working time is longer.  Perfect for beginners!  The caveat is it takes several layers to develop a darker color.
• Punch out your shapes before you crimp!  Even with small pieces like the heart, it's so much easiet than trying to get bumpy paper in a punch!
• When attaching embossed paper like the red in this project to card stock, apply the SNAIL or other adhesive to the OTHER surface.  Pressing on the embossed paper will flatten the embossing.
