Putting It Together Tips:

• What a great set of gift/all occasion cards this project makes.  The Petite Pocket die is perfect for a gift card and when you use DSP, it makes it really special as the inside of the envelope is lined with a coordinating pattern!  Sweet!
• Sponge Daubers are the perfect way to add some gentle texture to your creation.  When adding color with sponge daubers, always start off the project and add color in a swirling motion on to the project.  This will avoid heavy blotches of color that take away from the soft look you're trying to achieve.
• The picture does not do the ribbon that comes in the Everyday Enchatment Ribbon & Brad Pack justice.  The only way I can describe it is to say it's like colored gossamer!  Sparkling sheer color that adds a great touch to these detailed but simple creations.
• The envelope stickers were created by first stamping the image on Very Vanilla card stock.  Punch them out with the circle punch and apply some Dotto to the back.  Then affix them to a piece of waxed paper.  When you need to use them, just peel them off and apply them to the envelope!

Easy Events as The Clock Ticks

Stampin' Up! Easy Events

There's 72 hours left for the $99 Starter Kit, so for those of you that STILL haven't made up your mind, here's one last project made from the Starter Kit set Easy Events.  Card projects don't have to take forever or require multiple layers.  And you all know how I love 3'' x 3'' cards.  This set was made for them.  It's the perfect set for the beginner or the experienced stamper who wants to add a little bit of whimsy to their collection.  This is a new addition to the 2011-12 Idea Book & Catalog and it covers so many events.  This particular project took me all of about a  half an hour to create.  After all it's just printing with  StazOn® Jet Black Ink and coloring with various Stampin' Write Markers.  Of course the matting perfectly matches the ink because that what it does best!

Tempting Espresso Cielo

Stampin' Up! Daisies #2 & Teeny Tiny Wishes

A few weeks ago I ran into an old friend at a new coffee shop in downtown Palm Springs called Espresso Cielo.  Over the past weeks I've gotten to know the manager, Michael (great name!), so I felt comfortable approaching him to ask if I might leave a few of my Occasions Minis on his local reading shelf.  I pulled together a packet with a sample gift card, catalog, and an introduction to me and my services, and brought them by for his approval.  He loved the packets, but he loved the gift card more and asked if I might make some to sell in his shop.  You don't have to ask me twice!  Absolutely!   So I pulled together a small display with a topper using my newsletter banner That also contains my blog pic, and they sit right by the register.  I stopped by today to take the picture and a customer waiting in line for one of their delectable pastries at first wondered why in the world I was taking a picture of the register.  Then she looked at the display and then at me and said “Is that YOU!”  I admitted it was and she immediately became intrigued with the cards.  I was so dumbfounded I completely forgot to give her a mini!

I've added Espresso Cielo logo to my sidebar where you can click and be directed to their website.  Admittedly it's somewhat sparse at this point but Michael assures me they are in the process of adding more content.  My card for today is the design I have chosen for my Mother's Day gift card.  But here's the problem.  I don't know which one I like better.  So I'm coming to you for a vote.  Tell me which one do you like best - the one with the all white daisy or the one with the white and black daisy.  Enjoy!

Putting It Together Tips:

• If you're going to do one daisy, punch it out and then run it through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  But if you're going to do a bunch of daisies, run the paper through first and then punch them out.  Much easier!
• I found I could have four layers of card stock on the Flowers die and get out perfect die cuts.  Any more than that and you'll have some challenges rolling the sandwich through the Big Shot.
• I used Dimensionals to pop up the daisy center and the Modern Label sentiment.  The Dimensional in the center of the daisy actually brought the center to the same level as the double stacked petals.

Butterflies Are Free

My Spring workshop for my teacher group was last Friday.  They always want a 3D project so I decided to do a trio of projects with a butterfly theme.  I really love Butterfly Prints as it has several butterflies to chose from AND they can be punched out with a Stampin' Up! punch perfectly.  

 

 

The treat bag was designed after a project that appeared in the Stampin' Up! Magazine for demonstrators.  I tweaked it a bit to fit my needs and then designed a greeting card and note card to match.  And you all know how I love 3x3 cards.  Nuff said!

Putting It Together Tips:

• For the greeting card, after punching out one of the 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles, I placed it on a scoring surface and using the bone folder I scored across the Scallop Circle intersecting the center on all scores.  Then using a Sponge Dauber I applied Soft Suede Classic Ink to the edges.
• To create the pleated background for the Butterfly Bag, I punched two 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles and scored as above.  Then I cut to the center (half way through the circle) and accordion folded both circles.  Next I applied 2-Way Glue Pen to an end fold and glued the two halves together.  In retrospect I probably would have shaded the circle as I did in the previous circle first to give more dimension. 
• The Embosslit Sweet Buttons die cuts were used both as decoration and for function to hold the pleated component together.  It was held to the bag using a Dimensional.  I will try to create a video on the steps to assemble this component in the near future.

Putting It Together Tips:

• The most economical way to create 3'' x 3'' gift cards is using 12'' x 12'' scrap book paper.  Place a sheet of 12'' x 12'' paper in the paper cutter and score at 9'' and at 3'' using the bone folder.   Then without shifting the paper, cut it at 6''.  Next turn the pieces 90 degrees and cut at 3'', 6'' and 9''.  This will give you eight gift cards with no waste.
• You can create your own designer paper by using background stamps.  You are only limited by the number of ink pads you have.  I used the XOXO background stamp.  The advantage of using Designer Series Paper is the simplicity and easy.  Just cut it into 2 3/4'' x 2 3/4'' pieces.  You can get 16 squares from a single sheet of paper.
• Rub Ons are an effective and extremely quick way to create a wonderful selection of gift cards without ever opening up an ink pad and stamp set.   My Love Balloon card is a perfect example of that.  Again you can get a large selection of cards from  single set of rub ons.
• Punches are one of your best investments.  And Punch Bunch is a wonderful set because each image is supported by a Stampin' Up! punch.

Quick & Easy Sweet Treats Table Decor

One last visit for the Sweet Treat cups - this time as a simple table decoration.  The punch out that's on the tag can also be replace with a simple circle inscribed with the guests' names for place cards.  Their 3" x 3" size make them the perfect size and the top fold keeps them upright through the entire meal!  (That is if they last that long!)

Pals Paper Arts Challenge #58 - Pretty in Pearls

The Pals Paper Arts Challenge this week is a Clean & Simple Elements of Style Challenge.  Our theme is “Pretty In Pearls” and our inspiration photo was the essence of style herself - Audrey Hepburn.  Please join us as we create some simple yet stylish cards at the PALS website.

For this challenge I opted to do two cards.  The one of the left is my new favorite project size - the 3x3 gift card.  Small and easy to do, the gift card allows you to pack a lot of WOW onto a small space.  The full size card plays on a monochromatic theme to create CAS Style!

Putting It Together Tips:

• Investing in the Embossing Buddy is one of the best investments for the money you can make if you like to do heat embossing.  It virtually eliminates al stray embossing powder from clinging to the car stock.
• Positioning the tiny pearls can be tricky.  I used the tip of my Hobby Blade to remove them from the backing and position them on the card.  Actually it works great for all sizes of stick on embellishments.
• The Early Espresso ink looks lighter because I have coated it with a fine mist of Frost White Shimmer Paint.  Dissolve 10 drops of the paint in 1/4 ounce of 70% isopropyl alcohol.  Mix - shaken, not stirred.  Place it in a fine mist spray bottle.  Practice using it on scraps before you coat your entire project - just makes good sense!

Celebrate Good Times & Friends

Stampin' Up! Perfect Punches & Celebrations DSP

It's Sunday night and I'm already going through Convention withdrawal!  So many incredible ideas, so many incredible friends - old and new, so many incredible changes to my blog you'll see over the coming weeks.  I will truly do what the theme for the Convention was - Share What You Love!

On Friday night the Pals that attended the Convention gathered for dinner and did a project swap.  The pictures below were taken of my swap.  My goal: one stamp set, one Designer Series Paper, and a simple design that was easy to recreate.  The one caveat is that I used a ton of punches and Big Shot dies.  But I tell my card club that it is always wise to invest in tools, those items that can be used over and over and are truly an investment in your hobby or business.  And technically you could always cut these out by hand with a pair of Paper Snips (another good investment) until you had the full battery of punches and dies!

I also created a little  Pizza Box perfect to gift these little babies in.  Please see the bottom of this post.  I plan on making a video with directions on how to create these boxes for any size project.

Putting It Together Tips:

• I used 12" x 12" Whisper White Card Stock.  I scored at 3" and 9" first.  Then I cut at the 6" position.  Stack the two resulting pieces and cut across the score lines and 3", 6", and 9".  The results is eight 3"x3" folded gift cards.
• I work on all my cards flat and then fold them after the card faces are complete.  But because these cards are all matted on 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" pieces of card stock, it really doesn't matter.  The DSP is cut 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".
• The Scallop Border trim was created by starting with a 3/4" strip of card stock passed through the punch.
•  The pizza box window was cut Clearits Scallop Rectangle die after the scoring was done by positioning the clear die in position face down on the paper and securing it with a piece of painter's tape.  This ensures the die stays in position.  I then flipped the card stock over so that the die was face up and passed it through the Big Shot as usual using the Multi-purpose Platform and cutting plates.
