Stampin' Up! Happy Hour and Argyle Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

It's the first Thursday of the month and that means it's the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge!  This week the colors are Real Red, Marina Mist, and Summer Starfruit.  Now there's a combination for you.  I had an idea of what I wanted to create.  I completed about three quarters of the card, and then it went into the circular file!  Did you ever start in one direction and by the time you got were you were headed, you realized it wasn't where you wanted to be?  Thank goodness it's only paper!

Stampin' Up! 5th Avenue Floral & Four Frames

This week's challenge for the Pals Paper Arts is an Inspiration photo conjuring up thoughts of weddings.  Use the photo as visual inspiration to focus on the pastels, the flowers, and the lace.  Or simply use the theme of wedding to let your imagination wander.  My interpretation of the photo focused a bit on the floral aspect and a bit on the concept of wedding.  I wanted to create a wedding card that was traditional with a bit of an edge.  The Basic Gray pinstripe could even be the groom's tux.  However you interpret it, when we ask if you want to participate, we hope you'll say “I do!”

Putting It Together Tips:

• To create the background I die cut the Top Note Die with Brushed Silver card stock.  Then I positioned it in the embossing folder aligning the pattern for balance.
• To create the label, I first used VersaMark ink for the frame and dusted it with the Silver embossing powder.  Heat set.  Then using my Stamp-a-ma-jig I aligned the greeting perfectly and imprinted it with Basic Gray Classic Ink.  Then I used the Decorative Label Punch to punch it out.
• The Paper Snips let me cut out the intricate curves of the rose quickly and accurately.  The leaves were punched out using the Petals punch.

Butterflies Are Free

Stampin' Up! Butterfly Prints &
Butterfly Paper Punch

My Spring workshop for my teacher group was last Friday.  They always want a 3D project so I decided to do a trio of projects with a butterfly theme.  I really love Butterfly Prints as it has several butterflies to chose from AND they can be punched out with a Stampin' Up! punch perfectly.  

 

 

The treat bag was designed after a project that appeared in the Stampin' Up! Magazine for demonstrators.  I tweaked it a bit to fit my needs and then designed a greeting card and note card to match.  And you all know how I love 3x3 cards.  Nuff said!

Putting It Together Tips:

• For the greeting card, after punching out one of the 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles, I placed it on a scoring surface and using the bone folder I scored across the Scallop Circle intersecting the center on all scores.  Then using a Sponge Dauber I applied Soft Suede Classic Ink to the edges.
• To create the pleated background for the Butterfly Bag, I punched two 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles and scored as above.  Then I cut to the center (half way through the circle) and accordion folded both circles.  Next I applied 2-Way Glue Pen to an end fold and glued the two halves together.  In retrospect I probably would have shaded the circle as I did in the previous circle first to give more dimension. 
• The Embosslit Sweet Buttons die cuts were used both as decoration and for function to hold the pleated component together.  It was held to the bag using a Dimensional.  I will try to create a video on the steps to assemble this component in the near future.

Pals' Paper Arts Challenge 50 - Wishes...Seldom Make History

Stampin' Up! Summer Mini & 2010-11 Idea Book & Catalog

 The Challenge for this 50th Week is a color challenge.  So Saffron, Chocolate Chip & Basic Gray are the colors of choice.    This was truly a challenge considering my style is to use ONE dark color as an accent!

 So I sat down to create the card and came up with the “Wishes” card.  I've been wanting to use Awash With Flowers ever since I used it the first time way back the first of April!  This seemed like another perfect opportunity.  After I completed this card I remembered one of my OInternet friends asking me if I would incorporate the Motorcycle stamp in the Summer Mini in a ladies card.  She said that women also rode motorcycles.  So after my “Bike Babe” comment I felt obligated to create a cards for her as well.  This color scheme seemed to lend itself perfectly.  So as Emeril would say...

 BAM!  That was easy...

Putting It Together Tips:

• Faced with a color challenge of this sort you can always double your palette by using tone on tone.  That's what I did with the Awash With Flowers set.  So Saffron Classic Ink on So Saffron Card Stock gives a wonderfully monochromatic effect that gives a sense of class and elegance.  Basic Gray adds to that effect.
• I wanted to integrate the sentiment into the theme of the card.  It was a piece of cake by turning the sentiment into the stem for a flower.  The sideways sentiment adds interest But this card could just as easily be place in landscape mode.
• The Ticket Corner Punch is one of the most versatile tools in the catalog.  You can turn a simple square or rectangle into a plaque simply by punching the corners!
• Finding a balance between a motorcycle and a woman's card is quite the feat.  I felt the Baroque swirl and Scallop Trim Border gave the card a feminine feel.  The swirl could also imply the dust kicked up by a woman biker!  And how perfect is Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's quote?!

Pals' Paper Arts Challenge 33 - Bloom

Stampin' Up!'s Bella's Bloom & Definitely Decorative Elegant Trio

Now here's a challenge!  Use Certainly Celery, Garden Green, and Kraft colors to create a project.  The two greens were a piece of cake, but where to place the Kraft.  I found it made a nice matting for the card. And Stampin' Up!'s Elegant Trio Decor Stencils are the perfect size for card fronts.  Not being one to use something like this in my home, I was really glad they were sized perfectly for the A2 card size!

Putting It Together Tips:

• A nice juicy ink pad is key in creating this stencil.  BUT - pounce once on  a scrap of paper first.  Fully inked daubers end up being too much ink and make the lighter colors too dark.
• The Definitely Decorative Stencils cling to the paper so no tape is needed to hold the stencil in place - just a nice firm hand will do it.
• When using the daubers, pounce, DO NOT RUB!  It would be very easy to catch a delicate piece of the stencil and bend it back.  Once that happens the stencil is never the same.
• I love pairing unlikely labels together to make an unusual matt.  This is the case with the pairing of the Modern Label with the scroll label from the Lot's of Tags set.  This set has some great tags - definitely a wise purchase.

Variation on a Theme - Best Wishes

Pocket Silhouettes & Oval All

This is the third installment on my series Variation on a Theme.  The series can be found on the left side of my blog under Categories.  My intent is to take a basic stamp set and show how many different ways you can use that stamp with the same design.  Several different occasion cards were created just by changing out the sentiment and the colors and a few embellishments!

Putting It Together Tips:

• Ink the entire En Francais background stamp with Soft Suede and imprint on Barely Banana.  Then measure the size of the wood block that the Pocket Silhouettes stamp set is mounted on and cut the Barely Banana to that size.  Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig imprint the Pocket Silhouette stamps in Basic Black on the Barely Banana pieces you cut out.  This will align them perfectly in the center of the paper.
• Matting the Barely Banana on Garden Green makes them pop against the Cable Green.
• Layer all pieces on the card using 2-Way Glue Pen except for the Garden Green main piece.  That should be glued to the card base using Snail.  Of course the punched oval is mounted using Stampin' Dimensionals.
