Best Dressed List - July

This week it's all about the year in review.  Like many news services that recognize the past year's events which shaped history, Pals Paper Arts is recognizing past participants for their contribution to our weekly challenges.   Each of the winners will receive a badge they can proudly display for their accomplishment.

Just as in judging the weekly challenge, picking a winner from a whole month's worth of entries is no easy task.  There were so many incredible contributions.  But as we say only one can win.  My pick for the month of July is Leena Girsa for her interpretation of the paper piercing challenge.  She incorporated her paper piercing technique into several different areas of the card,  Over all her creation was dramatic while maintaining a monchoromatic, clean & simple design.  Beautifully done, Leena!

This week's Pals Paper Arts challenge is an element of style - the tag.  Tags come in all shapes and sizes but I chose to stick with the traditional tag shape,  Add a piece of ribbon and anything can be a tag.   Here I selected to make the card also a giant tag.  Even used the Modern Label punch as a tag.  Your imagination is your only limitation.

Putting It Together Tips:

• Using markers is the fastes way to create multi-colored impressions, but it's very easy to place color on the stamp where you don't want it.  Use a Blender Pen to easily remove unwanted ink from the rubber.
• Always stamp your image first, and then punch it out for perfect image placement every time!
• To thread the ribbon through the tag, fold the ribbon in half crosswise and then again lengthwise to create a nub that fits through a 1/8'' hole.  To get the look I have, feed the ribbon through the hole from the front of the tag.

O Christmas Tree

As Christmas fast approaches I wanted to complete the pictures of my New York trip with all the night shots and Christmas tree pictures I took...AND...one rather unusual site - even for New York!

  

  

  

  

The Santa Pub Crawl was started in 2002 by a couple of friends looking for a bit of fun around the holidays. Needless to say the popularity has grown over the years! Highlights every year include, great bars and drink specials, the subway rides, amusing tourists in Times Square and on the streets of Manhattan.  We probably saw well over 400 Santa's traumatizing the children of New York, but the best sight was seeing the subway train pull away from the station filled with jolly "old" men in red suits and white beards!

Today is Thursday and it's time for the Pals Paper Arts weekly challenge.  Today it's a sketch challenge by our own Margaret Moody.  I took one look at this sketch and I thought PRESENT!  Maybe it's just that time of year.  But a small present to you is the preview of a new Dazzling Details color - Cherry Cobbler.  Now you can have the same glitzy finish in red that you have in the original Dazzling Details in white.  Gorgeous.  Watch for it availabler January 4th, just in time for Valentine's Day!

Putting It Together Tips:

• I love the new Simply Scored.  The stylus has two tips so you always have the correct tip and the scores are always crisp.  The pleated base was created with two Scallop Circle punches scored, slit to the center, pleated and joined.
• The Borderlines set is fast becoming one of my favorite sets for adding detail to projects.  Now with the addition of the Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details it creates the perfect Christmas border.
• True Confessions!  I try never to use retired products in my posts, so when I grabbed this sheet of Dashing, I thought it was actually part of Letters To Santa DSP.  You could use thaty striped pattern in place of this one.  
• I found that combining Cherry Cobbler card stock and Red Glimmer Paper for the "bow" gave me a bit of interest and helped define the different layers.  Does't that Real Red Glimmer brad put the cherry on the cake?

On November 4th I held a Holiday Card Workshop at my favorite coffee shop, Espresso Cielo.  Last month I posted one of the cards we did with one of my favorite stamp sets Lovely As A Tree.  You can see that project HERE.  This time I'd like to feature the other card I did at the workshop.  The wreath card on the right is a perfect winter card in non-traditional Christmas colors, but perfect for Hanukkah.  So I decided to create a card specifically for Hanukkah with one of our A La Carte stamps.  Perfect!

Putting It Together Tips:

•  There are really not many tips for this card as it is pretty straight forward in its construction.  The use of a Stamp-a-ma-jig might be useful to center the images on the precut card stock.
• Construct the Brushed Silver and Pacific Point card stock base and wrap the organza ribbon around it before you  attach it to the card base.

Day 2 In The Big Apple

Hi everyone,

It's day two here in NYC and it was a beautiful sunny crisp day.  We took the subway to the end of the line to South Seaporter to the TKTS office and got tickets for How To Succeed In Business  with Daniel Radcliff (Harry Potter)  Then over to Ground Zero to see the construction on the new towers and NYSE.  Then up to midtown for some pics and shopping!  I'm exhausted!
