Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog

Tomorrow is the last day to place an order from this season's Holiday Mini Catalog, so I thought I'd feature my favorite stamp set from the mini.  You all know how I love stamps that coordinate with punches.  They make quick work of the task of cutting out intricate (and not so intricate) shapes and give a very detailed look to a quick and easy card or scrap book page.  The Tags Til Christmas set has 9 stamps and 8 of them work in coordination with a Stampin' Up! You all are probably thinking that I live at Starbuck's.  I don't!  However I do visit it regularly and I am always impressed by the quality of their graphics.  If you recall a few weeks back I posted a card inspired by the pastry bag I received my cookie in.  Today my inspiration is from the gift cards available at the register.  Starbuck's artwork displays a wide range of color and design.  And for those of you that follow my blog regularly, you'll have to admit this is quite a departure from my usual style.   But it was a blast to create and I even tried a new technique.  Stay tuned for my video on Brayering!

Putting It Together Tips:

• The background was created by applying (starting from the top) Melon Mambo, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Melon Mambo to Glossy White card stock.  The glossy card stock allows you to blend the ink together with a brayer.  The Pumpkin Pie is actually much brighter in person. 
• The Pretty Petals graphic was applied twice using Cherry Cobbler Classic - once in one direction, and then again in the opposite direction.
• The leaf graphics were applied by cutting out the individual leaves with Paper Snips once stamped on the colored card stock.
• The edges of the sentiment were shaded by applying Cherry Cobbler  in a circular motion with a sponge dauber.

PPA 55 - A Colorful Farewell

Stampin' Up! Punched Posies and Decorative Label Punch

Something new is in the air.  And with it we must bid farewell to our “heart” felt color challenges.  The countdown has begun to an exciting new Pals' look and challenge and I've joined their design team.  During the coming months you'll see some exciting challenges sure to peak your interest and keep you coming back for more.  BUT, this week our challenge is a colorful one of Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo, and Daffodil Delight.  Of course you can use a neutral in there to balance it out and get some contrast.  As I was on my morning walk the other day I noticed a telephone wire lined with birds.  Everyone of them was exactly the same and facing the same way.  It reminded me of a Stampin' Up! set.  (Only I would look at a bunch of birds and think SU!)  Here's my interpretation...

Putting It Together Tips:

• It's almost impossible to light rhinestones in a picture so they look like rhinestones and not silver brads.  Suffice it to say that the Melon mambo butterfly has rhinestones - not brads - all over her body!
• I wanted the Tempting Turquoise bodies  to match the rhinestone body without using brads, so I opted to use the dot stamp that comes with the Hostess set. I repeated the theme with the black brads in the lower right corner.
• Stamping the butterflies in the same color ink as the paper gives they some texture without looking to cluttered with color.

2010 Holiday Mini Preview - Nostalgia Reigns!

Convention was incredible.  But last year I was lucky enough to win a Prize Patrol.  Let me explain.  Upon check-in you get colored wristbands. During Convention - traditionally after a product demonstration - they would show a colored wristband up on the big screens and whoever had that band was given free product.  Usually the prizes were stamp sets.  Well this year after very emotional closing remarks from Shelli, she made THE announcement.  Everyone at Convention WHO WAS PRESENT got the following prize:

Putting It Together Tips:

• I approached this design a bit differently.  Instead of doing the usual, I opted to create a shadowbox effect.  The ornament punch was used to reveal the Cherry Cobbler mat and that area was used to showcase our fragile earth punched out with a 1/2” punch.  (I love it when the punches match perfectly to our images.  This is a Stampin' Up! Exclusive!)
• Shaking off tradition again, I tied the ribbon through the ornament punch instead of around the entire car.  This gives the card dimension and a bit of interest.  It also showcases the shadowbox effect.
• Some of us shy away from the sheets of DSP with large printed images on them.  I say NO!  Incorporate the images into your creation.  It's much easier than water coloring, right?  I cropped the DSP to fit the 4” x 5 1/4“ size.  (If you do this you might first want to crop the edge as it has the Stampin' Up! Logo print on it and I didn't want that on the face of my card.
• This stamp set provides a crisp image, which I love.  The thin line of embossed silver which supports the earth ornamebt actually looks like a piece of silver thread.  Amazing!
